Season One ("we", "us") is a social app for discussing TV shows and movies. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.

Is what I post public?: Yes. Posts, replies and your profile are visible to anyone, signed in or not.
Do you sell my data?: No. We have never sold or shared personal information, and we do not run ads.
Do you train AI on my posts?: No. Your content is not used to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s.
Can staff read my messages?: Only when a message is reported. See “Direct messages” below.
Can I delete everything?: Yes — Settings → Delete account removes your posts, replies, messages and photos.

Public by default

Season One is a public conversation. Your posts, replies, profile, handle and the titles you follow are visible to anyone — with or without an account — and can be found by search engines, quoted, screenshotted and archived by people we have no control over. Deleting a post removes it from Season One; it does not retrieve copies anyone else has already made.

Direct messages are not public, and they are not end-to-end encrypted. They are visible to the people in the conversation. Our administrators can read a message only when someone reports it, and only the reported message — not the rest of the conversation.

Information we collect

Email address and password— used to create and secure your account, confirm it's really you, and let you log back in from any device. Your password is stored by our authentication provider (Supabase) in hashed form; we do not have access to your plaintext password.
Phone number — only collected if you apply to claim or verify a show/movie page as an official representative, to confirm your identity before granting page-owner permissions. It is not required, and not collected, for ordinary sign-up or posting. We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number with third parties for their own purposes. Message frequency: one text per verification attempt (you may receive a second if you request a new code). Message and data rates may apply. You are not enrolled in any recurring or marketing SMS by verifying your number.
Profile information you choose to provide — handle, display name, bio, profile photo.
Content you post— see "How we use your content" below for the specific ways your posts, replies, and other typed content are used beyond simply being shown to other users.
Age range and gender— optional. We ask once, during sign-up, and you can skip it or answer only one of the two. We ask for a bracket (for example 25–34), never your date of birth. These answers are stored privately: they are never shown on your profile, never attached to your posts, and never visible to other users. See "Insights we share with studios" below for the only place they are used. You can ask us to delete them at any time using the contact address at the bottom of this page.
Bullish/Bearish votes — when you predict whether an unreleased film will land, we record your vote, any later change to it, and when each happened. Your individual vote is never shown to other users; only the overall percentage split and vote count for that film are public.
Genres you pick during sign-up, used to suggest people worth following and to group feedback by taste.
Device/session identifiers via cookies, used to keep you signed in and to protect against automated abuse.

How we use your content

This section covers what happens to the actual text you type — your posts, replies, and anything else you write — beyond it simply being displayed to other users, which is the one thing most apps disclose but not the only thing that matters.

Visible to other users— posts, replies, likes, and follows are shown publicly as part of how the app works, exactly as you'd expect from a public discussion feed.
Visible to our administrators — authorized Season One admins can view all posts, including ones removed from public view, in order to moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service.
Processed by automated abuse-detection systems— we run automated checks against the text you post to detect spam, duplicate/repeated content, and unusual posting behavior. When one of these checks flags a post, we store a short excerpt of that post's text (not the full post) in an internal moderation log. That log is visible only to our admin team and is used solely to decide whether to tighten anti-abuse measures — it is never shown to other users or used for advertising.
Failed sign-in attempts— when a login fails we record the email address that was typed, the IP address it came from, the browser or app used, and the time. This exists to detect someone working through a list of passwords against other people's accounts, and to let us block them. It is visible only to our admin team, is never used for advertising or shared with anyone, and is deleted after 90 days.
Aggregated, non-identifying statistics — we may count things like how often a show or movie is mentioned across posts to power features like trending rankings. These are aggregate counts tied to a show, not to you personally, when shown publicly.
We do not sell your posts or profile content to third parties, and we do not use your content to train third-party advertising or AI models.

Insights we share with studios

Season One sells aggregate audience insights to studios and distributors — for example, how sentiment about an upcoming film moved in the weeks before release, how many people voted, and how that differed between age groups or between people who favour different genres. This is a real part of how we make money, so we would rather state it plainly here than bury it.

Only ever aggregates.What leaves is a number describing a group — "62% of voters aged 25–34 were bullish" — never your individual vote, age, or gender.
Never your identity. We do not share your name, handle, email, profile photo, or posts with studios, and nothing we share can be traced back to you.
Small groups are withheld. When a group is too small for its numbers to be meaningfully anonymous, we do not report it at all, because a statistic describing two people is really a statement about those two people.
Answering is optional. Skipping the age and gender questions does not limit anything in the app. Your votes still count toward the public percentage either way.

How we use third-party services

Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage, including your account credentials and everything you post.
Twilio — delivers the SMS verification code to your phone, only for the show/ticker claim flow described above.
The Movie Database (TMDB) — supplies show/movie titles, posters, and descriptions.
Cloudflare Turnstile — helps us tell humans from bots during sign-up and other sensitive actions.
GIPHY — powers GIF search. When you search for a GIF, your search term is sent to GIPHY through our servers; your identity is not.
PostHog — product analytics, used to understand which parts of the app people actually use. We identify you to it only by an internal account ID, never by email, name, or handle, and we do not record your screen or capture what you type.

Your choices

You can edit or delete your profile information, and delete individual posts, at any time from Settings. You can skip the optional age and gender questions entirely, or ask us to delete those answers later — doing so does not change anything about how the app works for you. To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact us at the email below.

Children's privacy

Season One is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
